首先，关于在美国境内进行的I-485调整身份申请（AOS），它的优点是：如果你在美国工作，你可以不用担心需要出境的问题，能够继续留在美国工作，相对来说更加方便。

然而，AOS也有两个主要缺点：

除非你持有H-1B或L-1签证，否则你必须要等到拿到回美证之后，才能出境美国。在I-485审理期间，没有回美证是无法出境的。

接下来是境外领馆办理身份转换（CP）的优缺点。它的优点主要有两个：

你在申请期间没有任何出行限制，可以自由出境。

不过，CP也有一些缺点：

在申请审理期间，你无法在美国居留，必须等待面试通知才能进行面试，整个过程由大使馆处理，看是否能顺利入境美国。

如果国内外局势或其他情况发生变化，可能会影响你的面试时间，导致申请时间的不确定性。

Let’s start with I-485 Adjustment of Status (AOS) within the U.S. The advantages include:

However, there are two main disadvantages to consider:

You must obtain your Advance Parole (re-entry permit) before you can leave the U.S. during the I-485 processing period (unless you are on an H-1B or L-1 visa). Without this, you won’t be allowed to travel abroad while your I-485 is pending.

Compared to Consular Processing, the costs are higher because you need to pay various application fees to the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS).

On the other hand, Consular Processing (CP) outside the U.S. has its own advantages:

First, there are no travel restrictions, so you can come and go as you please.

Second, the application fees are significantly lower. You only need to pay the DS-260 application fee, and later, the fee to issue your green card when you enter the U.S.

However, the downsides of CP include:

You cannot stay in the U.S. during the processing period, and you must wait for your interview notice before attending the interview at the consulate. The consulate will process your application and decide whether you can proceed to enter the U.S.

Additionally, if there are changes in international conditions or other circumstances, it could affect the timing of your interview, causing potential delays.
